Today we want to share some images from our Christmas tours. We are very proud because many travellers have been walking with us on these holiday weeks and have enjoyed Barcelona through our Walking tours… This is our aim, to present the essence of Barcelona to the larger public.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to start new projects! Everyone gets back to work with more energy and enthusiasm. It was a pleasure to walk with you and let you immerse with our Xmas tours, in a city that will not leave you indifferent.

2022 Christmas tours program

Christmas time is approaching in a few days and it’s time to start planning for the holidays. Today we want to share our Christmas tours program 2022.

This season in the festive weeks, we will continue offering the BARCELONA & GAUDI regular tours with their usual schedules, and our BARCELONA & URBANISM, BARCELONA & THE SEA, BARCELONA & FUTURE CITY and BARCELONA GOTHIC TO MODERN walks as private tours as well. and we only close 25th December and 1st January.

Christmas is really a beautiful moment, Barcelona is decorated and illuminated in a very special way to receive all the visitors, it is a magical time to discover our city full of joy and festivity… Barcelona beats in another way and it’s felt in its streets.

Along the Modernism Route, we will trace the sinuous dream path that took Antoni Gaudí from his social concerns to a total absorption with the divine, until he finally became “the last great cathedral builder. A great morning discovering the genius of Gaudí and Barcelona architecture.

BARCELONA & THE FUTURE CITY walk through the smart-city looking for our Future and discover with us the new Superblock at Poblenou.

This is an urban walking reflection on the main aims of urbanism and how they have been applied in the 22@ district in Poblenou. This was once a neighborhood full of small factories that is now being revitalized in an attempt to recapture the spirit of it’s industrial heyday.

BARCELONA & URBANISM Travel with us to the origins of modern Barcelona!

This is a trip to the origins of the guidelines laid out by Ildefons Cerdà on the plain of Barcelona. He was responsible for designing a 133m x 133m grid without borders, hierarchies or suburbs that has given Barcelona the status of an advanced city.

BAW is making a great comeback!

These last few weeks Barcelona has begun to see the first international tours and we are very excited to be able to share our passion again after months of confinement due to the global pandemic. It is important for us to see our streets fill with travelers taking pictures of our architecture, soaking up the culture and discovering the hidden jewels our city has to offer.

We have received incredible feedback on tripAdvisor from our walkers on these first few tours these past weeks. Nothing make us happier than knowing our walkers appreciate and enjoy our tours so much that many come back for more. Here are two examples of our latest reviews.

Best tour ever

We did a private tour, it was Gothic to Modern with Pia though – and it was FANTASTIC. This was the best thing we did in Barcelona, and quite possibly the best tour we have done in Europe. For sure top 3. Pia is extremely knowledgable, personable, and quite fun! You can tell, for sure, that she has a passion for architecture and her city. She pulled out maps, pictures, drawing paper, pencils – all to help us better understand the history of architecture in Barcelona. If you can do a private tour I would say do it – if you can not then get in on her regular tour. She is one of a kind! Thanks Pia for a great tour!!

Great time, highly recommend Barcelona & the Sea tour!

We went on the Barcelona & The Sea tour and had a great time with Ricard! We loved how he explained architecture, history, and urbanism in such an engaging way. We learned a lot and had fun along the way. This is my second time to go on a BAW tour, and I will keep going every time I come to Barcelona. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to get to know the city, beyond the usual touristy stuff. Thanks, Ricard! Hope to be be able to go on another BAW tour again later this year!

RCR A field trip to the Garrotxa county in northern Catalonia to see the work of the RCR studio, winners of the Pritzker Prize in Architecture 2017.

LANDSCAPE an itinerary through Barcelona’s largest urban parks designed by renown architectural firms such as Coll-Leclerc, Carles Ferrater or Jean Nouvel.

MODERNISME this tour will take you beyond the most emblematic works of this movement to discover the origins and all the details concerning Modernisme.

SAGRADA FAMILIA + SANT PAU + PARC GÜELL you will enjoy the most emblematic and most visited monuments in Barcelona led by an official tour guide that specializes in “Modernismo”.

BARCELONA 1929/1992 this tour showcases the relationship between the city and the mountain through the role Montjuïc played in the Universal Exposition of 1929, and its transformation in 1992 with the new facilities for the Olympic Games.

As you can probably imagine our architect/tour guides are anxious to receive walkers and share our knowledge about the architecture and history of Barcelona. Barcelona & the Sea

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone going to Barcelona and interested in it’s history. Our tour guide, Ricard, explained the political, cultural and environmental forces which shaped Barcelona from its beginnings to present day. As we walked through the neighborhoods our eyes awaken to many buildings we otherwise would have missed nor understood their importance. This tour enriched our experience of Barcelona. Our guide was very knowledgeable, interesting and personable. He is a local resident and having grown up in the city brought interesting stories and insights to the tour. Wish we had time to go on other tours by offered BAW. Marian C

Three tours! Five stars!

I very much enjoyed my three tours:
Ricard (Sea)
Martina (Urbanism)
Carola (Future City)
Hopefully someday I will return and to the other two.
It worked out great to do the tours in this order as well. The Sea gives you the origins for the city. Urbanism helps explain the city growth and planning beyond the original walls. And the future city gives a look at what might or might come in the future.
All three of my guides were excellent. I enjoyed getting to know them and their beautiful city. Can’t wait to come back!! (JoelMinneapolis)

Excellent Introduction to “Barcelona and the Market”

We did “Barcelona and the Market” with Miguel last Monday. He was a brilliant guide and interpreter of how Barcelona has developed in response to changing needs and new technologies. He brings the architecture alive and explains how Barcelona’s architectural tradition has developed. Of particular interest to us was how Barcelona’s people have shaped the planning of the city and how architects have responded to and shaped this. Miguel is an engaging and informative guide who brough the market alive and shared with us and helped us to appreciated the thought that Miralles hadn’t put into it. (Peter M.)

“Barcelona’s Future: Architecture Tour”

Jordi Garet led us on a very insightful tour from the Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, which is a kind of “ground zero” for the future development of the city. He gave us background first, informed by maps and 150 years of attempts to make the plaza more livable, then led us on a walking tour of at least 10 buildings or sites, each with its own unique story. The tour was our 16-year-old’s idea, and we didn’t choose the Gaudi tour only because we knew we would later visit Casa Battlo, the Sagrada Familia, etc. and we wanted a broader view of the city.

Durante este cálido mes de Agosto del 2015 Barcelona Architecture Walks no ha cesado en su empeño de mostrar el alma de Barcelona a través del imaginario urbano depositado en sus edificios y espacios públicos… y debe de ser muy hermosa para robar sonrisas por doquier!

All over this warm August 2015 Barcelona Architecture Walks didn’t stop with its determination of showing Barcelona’s soul through the urban imaginary settle on their buildings and public spaces… and must be beatiful to steal smiles everywhere!
