Until 28th of September, In addition to being a great public event, Barcelona Mercè 2025 Festivities are also a macro-festival made up of various individual festivals that showcase Barcelona’s cultural richness, from MAC Mercè Arts de Carrer, to displays of popular culture.
Among the wide range of proposals, we would like to highlight these three open house activities.
Open day at the Hivernacle
The Hivernacle Greenhouse is a unique building with extraordinary heritage and natural value that is divided into three areas: the central hall, which shares information about the Ciutadella as a scientific park; the Magnolias Hall, which contains the permanent exhibition with the live plant collection; and the Picasso Hall, designed for temporary exhibitions on natural sciences associated with the neighbouring Martorell Exhibition Centre.
Built 135 years ago by Josep Amargós i Samaranch, the Hivernacle was one of the buildings in the 1888 Universal Exposition and is currently protected as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.
Now open to the public after being closed for a long time, the Hivernacle is a space where the botanical collections are tended to and displayed to the public and the ideal venue for a wide variety of outreach activities whose purpose is to share nature and botanical knowledge with citizens while enhancing the heritage value of the Parc de la Ciutadella.

On Saturday 27 September, the ‘Jugatecambiental’ activity, the guided workshop that teaches participants how to use plasticine with the pigment and natural scents from garden herbs.
